Dental Pulp Polyp

Dental Pulp polyp - the picture is of an open carious lesion showing a pulp polyp in mandibular permanent first molar tooth. The tooth in such a condition can be treated with root canal therapy, post & core, and full coverage crown  or by an extraction procedure. In decidious teeth with in complete root development, placement of an apical barrier and strengthening of the thin root with composite resin may be indicated prior to root canal therapy.  Failure of pulp necrosis, good vascular & immune supply in an open carious lesion has led to chronic hyperplastic pulpitis. Granulation tissue has developed in a productive pulpal inflammation.
